Construction has started on the first of several pedestrian- and bicycle-related projects in the city of Ojai.
A new crosswalk with curb extensions and flashing beacons is being installed in the 900 block of East Ojai Avenue in front of the Whispering Oaks housing complex.
The pedestrian-activated beacons will be similar to those on Ojai Avenue in front of the Ojai Library.
In early January, J & H Engineering General Contractor of Camarillo began work on the crossing, which should be in place by early March, according to Ojai Public Works Director Greg Grant.
“It provides a high-visibility pedestrian crossing … with rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs)”, Grant explained.
The approximately $105,000 project was funded by a Transportation Development Act (TDA) grant and matching city monies.
