Meetings will address local debris flow risks

Perry Van Houten, Ojai Valley News reporter
Ojai Valley residents concerned about post-Thomas Fire debris flows can attend a series of community safety meetings Feb. 17 in Oak View.
“We want people to be educated about the debris flow risks and to know the tools they have at their disposal to make informed decisions,” said Kevin McGowan, assistant director with the Ventura County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services (OES).
OES, in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service, Cal Fire and other city and county agencies, has identified 10 zones around the burn area which may be impacted by post-fire debris or mud flows.
The meeting will be split into three 90-minute sessions, and residents are encouraged to attend the session specific to their zone, since the zones vary depending on their geology, slope and other factors.
