Efforts to remove the obsolete Matilija Dam have taken another step forward, with the hiring of an Oakland consulting and engineering firm.
At its Feb. 6 meeting, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors approved a consultant services contract with AECOM Technical Services, Inc.
The $822,302 contract will pay for AECOM to perform engineering services for the Matilija Dam Removal 65% Design Planning Project.
AECOM's tasks will include finding a way to reduce the impact of built-up sediment behind the dam while minimizing costs and the time associated with the dam's removal.
Money to pay for AECOM's services will come from a $3.3 million grant from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) that was accepted by the Board of Supervisors in May.
