Court ruling could halt citrus spraying

A Feb. 22 Sacramento Superior Court injunction against the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) may radically change the local fight against the Asian Citrus Psyllid (ACP).
ACP is a known threat to local citrus growers — the insect is a vector for the citrus disease Huanglongbing (HLB), which is incurable and fatal to citrus trees.
The disease is credited with the decimation of Florida's citrus industry.
Since at least mid-2015, CDFA has implemented a voluntary insecticide treatment program for Ojai Valley residences within 400 meters of a commercial citrus operation.
The treatments include the use of insecticides with the active ingredients cyfluthrin and imidacloprid.
