Noise and traffic concerns topped discussion of a proposed project to replace a Mira Monte coffee shop with a drive-through Starbucks during the Ojai Valley Municipal Advisory Council’s (MAC) March 19 meeting.
The plan involves demolishing the Full of Beans coffee shop at 11534 N. Ventura Ave. and building the new 2,026 square-foot Starbucks.
The Starbucks in the Red Horse Plaza would close, according to the proposal.
MAC voted to recommend the project to Ventura County Planning Department officials as presented, but added that county planners should work with the applicant to mitigate possible noise and traffic issues.
Public comments on the proposal were heard following a presentation by case planner Charles Anthony.
Several speakers took issue with a Ventura County Transportation Department study that found no overall increase in the number of traffic trips would result from the project.
“This place is going to rely on a whole lot more traffic,” said Charles Burnham of Ventura. “You're going to sell a whole lot more coffee.”
