Meiners Oaks resident Kris Humphries will add 10 little free libraries to the Ojai Valley over the next few months, thanks to a $2,200 grant from the Ojai Women's Fund (OWF).
What is a little free library? It's exactly what it sounds like: a small case of books that is offered to the public to borrow. Little free library patrons are encouraged to borrow titles they are interested in and leave ones they've already read.
Little libraries are scattered throughout the valley — Humphries installed one in front of her Alvarado Street home.
Her teenage son, Sean Reed, painted the word for library on the small vessel in a dozen different languages, Humphries said.
Reed is set to compete in the California State Geography Bee April 6.
Humphries' library is stocked with books for both adults and children that she sources from Twice Sold Tales, garage sales and her personal collection.
