Short-term rentals back in the spotlight

The debate over short-term rentals in the unincorporated areas of Ventura County continued April 12 during a meeting of the Ventura County Planning Commission.
The Planning Commission voted March 1 to reject a draft ordinance, shaped by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors, that would have disallowed whole-house short-term rentals in the Ojai Valley and decided instead to direct county staff to draft a short-term rental ordinance that would apply to the unincorporated county as a whole.
The Commission asked that the draft ordinance include numeric and/or density limits for short-term rentals in residential areas.
Ventura County Resource Management Agency director Chris Stephens informed the Planning Commission April 12 that its action exceeded the advisory authority to the Board of Supervisors.
