The Ojai Unified School District's (OUSD) School Board will likely decide May 1 if the district’s sixth-graders will move to Matilija Junior High School (MJHS), making it a middle school.
The Board discussed the concept during a special meeting April 19. Each member signaled their interest in continuing the conversation and said they hoped additional teachers, parents and students would share their thoughts during the forthcoming special meeting in the MJHS Auditorium.
“I'm leaning towards it. I'm not totally there. I would like to hear from parents,” said Board Member Shelly Griffen.
OUSD Assistant Superintendent Sherrill Knox has led conversations about the potential change alongside MJHS Principal Javier Ramirez and Assistant Principal Carol Paquette.
