The 118th Ojai Tennis Tournament got under way April 24 with the men’s and women’s singles qualifying rounds. A handful of local residents hit the courts to kick off the world-famous competition, including Nordhoff High School teacher and coach Todd Dickey.
“I look forward to ‘The Ojai’ every year. It's the most important tournament of the year and the one week of the year when the best tennis players in California converge to compete in the highest level of competition. I love competing and coaching in ‘The Ojai.’ I also love how the Ojai Tennis Club and tournament give back to our local tennis youth in Ojai by hosting the Ojai High Performance Tennis Clinic, giving tennis scholarships and awards to our local junior tennis players, and hosting the annual Holiday Tennis Tournament in December and of course ‘The Ojai’ in April. ‘The Ojai’ is truly the heart of tennis in California," said Dickey.
Joining Dickey in this year’s competition will be four of his Nordhoff High School athletes, including Victor Becker, Dakota Martin, Mikel Elizalde and Shawn Rothermell.
