Peter Swart, a Sisar Road resident, lost “pretty much everything” to the Thomas Fire, including his Upper Ojai rental.
In January, Swart received a trailer from the Help of Ojai, one of 10 the organization purchased for local fire victims who had previously lived in “non-traditional ways.”
Swart has since refurbished the trailer and returned to the Sisar Road property he inhabited before the fire.
“At the moment it’s ok, it’s like camping every day,” he said.
Swart’s is one of the 164 households Help has supported through its Thomas Fire Victims Emergency Fund, said Jayn Walter, a Help of Ojai case manager.
Help of Ojai has received approximately $685,000 in goods and financial donations to support victims of the Thomas Fire since December, added Help of Ojai Executive Director Terri Wolfe.
