Two classes of fifth grade students from Meiners Oaks Elementary School, including (from left) Julia Diaz, Bella Lopez and Brooke Green, helped plant oak trees at the Ojai Meadows Preserve June 13. “The basis of our approach is connecting kids to nature and you can see it happening right here,” said David White, project director for the watershed education program Once Upon a Watershed, which organized the planting. The program, sponsored by Oak Grove School and funded through grants and donations, is active at 12 schools in the Ventura River watershed.
