Taormina residents and others celebrated the installation of signs July 13 announcing the designation of the neighborhood as Ojai's first historic district. Originally envisioned as a retirement community for theosophists, the 71-home neighborhood was built adjacent to the Krotona Institute of Theosophy between 1968 and 1984. The designation puts design restrictions on future home construction and modifications to existing homes in the neighborhood. The city adopted the ordinance establishing the Taormina Community Historic District Sept. 13, 2016.
