County commission recommends a dark-sky ordinance for unincorporated areas

A dark sky ordinance for the unincorporated areas of the Ojai Valley has received the support of the Ventura County Planning Commission.
At a public hearing July 26, planners passed a resolution recommending the Board of Supervisors adopt the proposed ordinance establishing a dark sky overlay zone.
The ordinance would place new restrictions on outdoor lighting in the valley's rural communities to lessen the effects of light pollution and would primarily apply to new outdoor lighting or lighting that's being replaced.
It was first recommended to the Board in 2014 by the Ojai Valley Municipal Advisory Council (MAC), which held two public meetings to present the concepts and take public comments, and voted July 16 to support the draft ordinance.
