Big changes for tiny homes: Planning Commission recommends allowing the units with a few tightened restrictions

After over more than an hour of deliberation during its Aug. 1 meeting, the Ojai Planning Commission recommended the Ojai City Council adopt a modified ordinance permitting moveable tiny houses as accessory dwelling units (ADUs).
The motion passed 3-2, with Commission Chair Steve Quilici and Commissioner John Mirk representing the two “No” votes.
“My personal feeling is that we're still talking about trailers and I think that we should not be encouraging the infusion of trailers into our residential neighborhoods,” Quilici said. “The (Ventura County) tax assessor says that this is a parked trailer.”
