Candidate filing deadline nears

Austin Widger, Ojai Valley News reporter
With the 2018 elections approaching Nov. 6, there are a variety of local offices up for grabs in the Ojai Valley.
Both incumbents and new candidates must file their declaration of candidacy with the Ventura County Elections Office by Aug. 10 at 5 p.m.
The exceptions to this are the Ojai mayor and Ojai City Council candidates, who must file signed nomination papers with the Ojai City Clerk. To run for these positions in Ojai, a candidate must be 18 or older and a registered voter in the city. The candidate must collect between 20 to 30 signatures of registered voters as well.
Councilman Paul Blatz announced July 31 he will not seek re-election to the Ojai City Council, saying he needed to spend more time focusing on his law practice.
