BLM accepting comments on allowing fracking in Ojai area

Austin Widger, Ojai Valley News reporter
The federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is conducting an environmental and public health study to possibly open 28,000 acres in Ventura County for fracking and oil drilling, including 160 acres of school, trail and conservation land in the Ojai Valley.
The Ojai Valley parcels being considered include The Thacher School land including a hiking trail, the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy's (OLVC) Ilvento Preserve and an area between Sisar Canyon and Koenigstein Road in Upper Ojai.
Fracking involves injecting water, sand and chemicals underground at high pressure to break rock formations, making the extraction of oil easier and more efficient.
