Motorcyclist Killed On Maricopa Highway

Tragedy struck Thursday afternoon when a solo motorcyclist was killed on Maricopa Highway about five miles north of Wheeler Gorge after crashing into a gully. According to a CHP report, Ventura resident Edward Craig Layfield, 52, was traveling south down the highway on a 2002 Yamaha RX6 with two other motorcyclists when he tried to pass one of the other riders. The report indicates that as he attempted to pass the other motorcycle, his front tire came off of the ground. After the tire came back down on the road, he lost control
