City Council priorities
Nuclear option

Ojai City Council members William Weirick and Suza Francina have asked the City Council to discuss naming Ojai a nuclear-free zone at its Feb. 13 meeting. If passed, this could require city staff to insure no contract is given to any company that engages in "work for nuclear weapons" unless no viable alternative exists. It would require the city to divest itself of any investments, including employee pensions funds, with businesses that engage in "work for nuclear weapons. Also, it could prohibit nuclear weapons from being produced, transported, stored, processed, disposed of and used within the city limits. Finally, it would require the city to place signs at the city limits announcing the city is a nuclear-free zone.

Is this action an effective use of the Ojai City Council's time and the city's resources? *
