Stop the stop signs
MARK BODYCOMBE, Ojai
Enough stop signs!
I'm wondering if others are as bothered as I am by some of the recent new stop signs in town.

Caring spirit of Ojai
CAROL HOLLY, Ojai
A couple of days before Thanksgiving, I stopped off at Vons to get a few items for our dinner. The store was unusually crowded with shoppers and overflowing shopping carts. When I finished shopping, the front of the store was jammed up with customers, carts and long lines. There was no room for an orderly line, so we all verbally agreed to who would be behind whom in the jumbled traffic jam of bodies and carts.

Building civility in Ojai needed
JOHN & PEGGY RUSSELL, Ojai
On Nov. 20, about 50 of us met at The Ojai Retreat to enjoy some conversation, food and watch the Democratic Debate on television. The group of five sponsoring the event gave a short endorsement of Amy Klobuchar meant to inform why they were supporting her rather than convince others to support her. Although progressives were in the majority there were a significant number of moderates, including Republicans who have held positions in federal and state government. I see this as coming together for the good of the country, to learn and share ideas. We all need more of this to become better informed and build civility. I understand the sponsoring group is considering another such event.

Let’s raise funds for bocce courts
CHUCK KILLINGSWORTH, Ojai
I recently talked with a Ventura County employee about the possibility of getting a couple of bocce courts built in either Soule Park or Camp Comfort and it was suggested that I find a place in either park and do a fundraiser to have them built.

What Summit would mean to us:
KATIE O’KEEFE, Upper Ojai
Summit Charter School would mean a lot for my child and family. We are Ventura County natives but are new to the Upper Ojai area and had been researching different schools to start our daughter’s education into kindergarten this coming Fall 2020, when we came across Summit Charter School.

Different parties, same endorsement
John Broesamle, Judith Hale Norris, Douglas Parker, Randall Roth, Sandy Treadwell, Ojai
Although we come from different parties (two Republicans, three Democrats), we agree that the overriding political priority for 2020 is to elect a new president. We also agree that the best candidate to restore leadership and dignity to the presidency is Amy Klobuchar.

There was one very important item omitted that I would like to add.

Time for action on debris basin
BRAN DECKER, Ojai
I appreciate the articles and research by the Ojai Valley News, and especially, Perry Van Houten, regarding the need to clean up the debris basin for the diversion channel to Lake Casitas. We should follow through and communicate with our elected officials and other agencies that have jurisdiction over the watershed.

John and Laurie Slade
First I need to thank people so I don't get overwhelmed and forget — I am so grateful — first my two sisters, without whom I never could have survived this loss. And I thank all of our friends in Ojai who loved John, too, and have given me so much amazing support. I thank Andrea Stewart who has guided me through the legal system these last two years and more. And I thank the wonderful Deputy District Attorney Rafael Orellana who is so smart, and worked so hard on this case, and, in particular, I thank him for being such a compassionate listener.

Time to transition to organic farming
SUE WILLIAMSON, Ojai
Re: Emily Ayala’s Sept. 27 letter, “Pesticides allow sustainable crops”:
It’s very disconcerting to read a local farmer’s letter accusing those of us suffering from the harmful effects of pesticide spraying in the valley of passing on “hysterical fear-based and nonscientific” information. Where is her scientific proof of the harmlessness of these poisons?
