With the start of the 2022 high school football season just a couple of weeks away, the Nordhoff Rangers are busy putting the finishing touches on their off-season preparation. According to new NHS Head Coach Dillon Lowen, the Rangers have had a solid summer and the team is looking forward to the start of the season.
“I like where we are at right now. There is still plenty to work on and our focus is getting better each and every day. We have good size and we’re a very physical team. I really like our offensive line and the defense is looking good as well,” said Lowen.
According to Lowen, the Rangers continue to spend a significant amount of time in the weight room this summer under the guidance of local strength and conditioning Coach Dave Andrews. “Our focus is continuing to get bigger, stronger and faster and I think it’s paying off,” added Lowen.
One player who continues to impress this summer is junior Sol McGarey, who figures to be a focal point for the Rangers on both sides of the ball this fall. Lowen said, “Sol looks great this summer and I can’t wait to watch him run the ball this season, especially behind our line.”
This summer the NHS program has had about 28 players out for varsity and another 30 are out for the junior varsity program.
Local football fans will be able to get a glimpse of the Rangers in live action on Aug. 12 when they host Castaic High in a preseason scrimmage. The junior varsity squad will kickoff at 4 p.m. and the varsity team is expected to hit the field at 7 p.m.
NHS will open its 2022 season on the road against Cabrillo High School in Lompoc. The Rangers’ first four regular season games will be on the road, and they won’t play a home game until they host Moorpark on Sept. 16.
